The Brief

Develop a brand identity for a new hair studio. It was important that the visual brand represented the values of the client. Murray Lane & Co is welcoming, inclusive and all about community.

Nina and I discussed the Murray Lane namesake, her home in Portland, Oregon, where everyone was welcome. We agreed on something that looked a little vintage, warm and homey.

The Solution

Portland is known as the Rose City, so I created a rose icon to reference that within the branding. I drew inspiration from street signage from the 60s and 70s to connect the idea of home with some vintage elements. I developed a small collection of simple supporting graphics, that can be used across web and social media, as well as some textured backgrounds to create a clear identity and reinforce the rose as a main symbol of the brand. I also designed custom die-cut welcome cards, to be used instead of traditional business cards. As an additional element I created a custom illustration of the Murray Lane house.
